Grade Passback

After you have chosen the 'Enable or disable synchronization of this section with Instructure Canvas, based on grades' option, you will need to set up one or more items in your Canvas course to trigger the 'Minimum score required to pass course.'

NOTE: The 'Completed' status will not happen immediately. Grade Passback occurs once a day.

Option 1: Set up one graded item in Canvas

This can be an assignment, quiz, or discussion. You can add the graded item to a module or direct users to the Assignments page. See the Canvas Help information below on creating a module, assignment and quiz.

Option 2: Set up multiple graded items in Canvas

If you want users to do multiple things in your course for completion, you can set up multiple assignments, quizzes, or discussions. Users will need to do ALL graded items in the course in order to be considered complete.

Example Course with 4 graded items. The 'Minimum score required to pass course' was set to 80.0 (80%).
  • User 1: This user completed all 4 graded items and the Total is higher than 80%. The completion would get passed back to PDE3 and the Registration Status would change to 'Completed'.
  • User 2: This user completed all 4 graded items and the Total is less than 80%. No completion would be passed back to PDE3 and the Registration Status would remain as 'Registered'.
  • User 3: This user completed 3 graded items and the Total is higher than 80%. The user did not completeall 4 graded items, no completion would be passed back to PDE3 and the Registration Status would remain as 'Registered'.
    • Note: Users must complete all graded activities AND the Total must be greater than or equal to the 'Minimum score required to pass course' to be 'Completed'
    • Note: You can manually add scores directly into the Gradebook. You can also add zeroes for missing graded items. The Total will then be finalized based on all graded items.

Note: If you want to assess the users but do not want it to be a graded item, you can create an Assignment and choose 'Do not count this assignment towards the final grade'.

Example Course with 4 graded items and completion pass back to PDE3.

Note: The Canvas integration DOES NOT update the Grade column. If you want your users to have a Grade, you will need to manually update that in PDE3.

The users Transcript will note 'Completed' in the 'Registration Status' column
