Video Migration Information

We will be transitioning from Panopto to Canvas Studio, a more robust and integrated platform that offers cost savings and a seamless experience within Canvas. You will NO LONGER have access to use Panopto after May 30, 2025.


Please carefully review the transition timeline:


December 20, 2024

Any videos you create after this date will not be migrated to Canvas Studio.

Jan - Feb, 2025

Panopto Video Migration to Canvas Studio (for staff created videos only).


You will receive a list of videos to be migrated for your review. All other videos will be archived.

May 30, 2025

Panopto will be removed from Canvas.

June 30, 2025

Panopto License will end.

June - July, 2025

Update Panopto video links that you may be referencing (i.e., in your Canvas course, on a website, etc.) to Canvas Studio video links



FAQs

  1. Why are we transitioning to a new video platform?

    1. Canvas Studio offers a more integrated, robust, and cost-effective platform within Canvas. 

  2. What happens to any videos I create as a teacher after December 20, 2024?

    1. The video will remain visible until the end of the school year. 

    2. The video will NOT be migrated to Canvas Studio. (If you want to save this video, you will need to download the video and upload it to Canvas Studio yourself. For more information on uploading videos to Canvas Studio, refer to the Canvas Studio Guides.)

  3. What will happen to the Panopto videos that I have embedded or linked in my Canvas course?

    1. After June 30, 2025, these video links will not work. You will need to remove and replace any Panopto video links.

    2. If the video was migrated to Canvas Studio, you will need to embed or relink the video. For more information on embedding Canvas Studio media in the Rich Content Editor, please refer to the Canvas Studio Guides.

  4. Will student videos be migrated?

    1. No, student videos will NOT be migrated.

    2. If you have a student video that you have permission to use as an example, you will need to download the video and upload it to Canvas Studio yourself. For more information on uploading videos to Canvas Studio, refer to the Canvas Studio Guides.

  5. Can my students still create videos in Panopto this school year?

    1. Yes, if you have assignments set up to utilize Panopto, students can continue to use Panopto to create videos and for assignment submissions. 

    2. If you choose to use the assignment again next school year, please ensure that you edit this assignment as part of your course preparation process for next year. For more information on doing a Canvas Studio assignment, refer to the Canvas Studio Guides.

  6. Can I use Canvas Studio now?

    1. Yes, Canvas Studio is accessible via the Canvas main navigation and course navigation.
